International Women’s Hackathon 2013

The Hackathon is an event held on university campuses around the world. It isan exciting opportunity for women in computing and technology to network andcollaborate on Microsoft projects over three days. The event was simultaneouslybroadcasted by Skype between campuses around the world. Female computing andtechnology students with any level of programming experience were encouraged totake part. In this regard the invited four mentors helped students out with theprojects. Three women speakers were invited to express their experiences in IT andengineering which were aimed at encouraging more females in these maledominated fields. We had also one other speaker from Microsoft. On the lastday of this event, students presented their work and the future plans to the judges. InAustralia, this event was held at The University of Melbourne for the first time.
